Northbeam Review and Alternatives

Positioning map placing Northbeam in the journey-based self-serve quadrant of the attribution market, with MarSci in the aggregate managed quadrant

Northbeam is an ecommerce attribution and measurement platform: multi-touch attribution built on first-party pixel data, plus an MMM+ tier that pairs media mix modeling with that same attribution data, aimed at mid-size and large DTC brands.

This review covers the model menu (unusually well documented), the accounting modes, the partly public pricing, honest fit, and the alternatives. Claims last verified August 2026, from Northbeam’s site and documentation.

What Northbeam is

The product family: multi-touch attribution on first-party pixel data is the core. MMM+ pairs media mix modeling with the platform’s own attribution data and supports daily forecasts. Northbeam Apex feeds performance signal back to ad-platform algorithms, and creative and product analytics round out the suite.

The vendor’s scale claims, as stated on its homepage and unaudited: 130 billion dollars in attributed revenue and 25 billion dollars in tracked ad spend. Positioning: “MTA, perfected.” Treat vendor-stated scale as marketing until corroborated: but the product surface underneath it is real and well documented, which is where this review goes next.

The model menu and the details that matter

From Northbeam’s own docs, and genuinely more transparent than most rivals: seven named models in two groups.

Simple: First Touch, Last Touch, and Last Non-Direct Touch (the last touchpoint that wasn’t direct traffic: the default for most in-platform reporting).

Multi-touch: Linear (equal credit), Clicks-Only (equal credit among clicks, excluding views), and Clicks + Modeled Views: which per the docs takes roughly 25 to 30 days to learn from your data and uses a 1-day view window regardless of the window setting you choose. Details like that, published plainly, are why we call the documentation unusually good.

And a distinction most rivals don’t even surface: two accounting modes. Cash Snapshot credits revenue on the transaction day (built for reconciliation); Accrual Performance credits it on the interaction day (built for optimization). One for the books, one for the bosses: knowing which mode a report is in prevents a whole category of internal argument.

The universal caveat applies here as everywhere: pixel-based models see the journeys the pixel can see. Northbeam documents its models well; it cannot document the touches that never reached them.

Pricing: partially public

As listed in August 2026: the Starter plan is “starting at 1,500 dollars a month,” for businesses under 1.5 million dollars in annual media spend, month-to-month, with usage-based billing measured in pageviews. Professional and Enterprise are custom-quoted, and MMM+ sits in the higher tiers rather than the entry plan. No free trial is mentioned.

Don’t invent numbers for the custom tiers, and neither will we: budget conversations above Starter go through sales.

Who it suits, and who it doesn’t

A good fit: mid-size to large DTC brands: the vendor’s own tiering starts Starter under 1.5 million dollars of annual media spend, running multi-channel paid media, who want serious click-based attribution with an MMM cross-check inside one tool, and enough order volume to feed the learning models.

Less suited: smaller stores, for whom the entry price is real money; offline-heavy mixes, where the pixel’s world ends; regulated industries where user-level tracking is constrained; and teams whose central question is incrementality, which isn’t the platform’s center of gravity.

Alternatives, including where MarSci fits

By need, fairly: Triple Whale is the closest rival: similar ecommerce category, lower entry price (our review: Triple Whale review and alternatives). GA4 covers the free entry case. Measured leads with incrementality experiments for enterprise consumer brands.

And when measurement shouldn’t depend on a pixel at all: offline spend, tracking constraints, regulated categories, that’s MarSci’s ground: MMM on Google’s open-source Meridian engine plus Causal-Driven Attribution, peer-reviewed and open source. No method used by MarSci is a black box.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Northbeam do?

Ecommerce attribution and measurement: seven named MTA models on first-party pixel data, an MMM+ tier pairing media mix modeling with that data, and Apex feeding performance signal back to ad platforms, plus creative and product analytics. The documentation quality stands out in its category.

How much does Northbeam cost?

Partially public as of August 2026: Starter from 1,500 dollars a month for businesses under 1.5 million dollars in annual media spend, billed by usage. Professional and Enterprise are custom-quoted, with MMM+ in the higher tiers.

What is Northbeam MMM+?

Northbeam’s media mix modeling offering, paired with the platform’s own first-party attribution data and supporting daily forecasts, available in higher-tier plans rather than the entry tier. It’s the platform’s answer to triangulation: trail data and aggregate modeling inside one product, reserved for the bigger plans.

What are the best Northbeam alternatives?

Triple Whale in the same ecommerce category at a lower entry price, GA4 for free entry-level attribution, Measured for enterprise incrementality-led measurement, and causal platforms like MarSci where offline spend or tracking limits demand pixel-independent measurement. Match the tool to your journey shape first.
